Celebrate Diversity Party at Hulme Park on Sunday 22nd August

July’s heatwave promises to last into August as Hulme group ‘BLM Stand Up To Racism’ put on the first party in Hulme park to celebrate diversity.

The group, who wanted an event to put a spotlight on local and diverse talent, have been taking the knee every Wednesday at 6pm since the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota.

Karen Reissman is a nurse and prominent member of Hulme’s BLM Stand Up To Racism group. She said: “The outbursts of racism following the Euro football final shows racism is still with us, both at government and social media, and street level.

“But the massive response of the vast majority of UK residents against this racism has been both heart-warming and a serious dent in that racism, putting both Johnson and Patel back on the defensive.”

The event will have live music, capoeira dance, face painting for children, poetry, and stalls for unions and local groups.

If you would like to donate to the group to help with costs, or to find out more about the party in the park, email mcrstanduptoracism@gmail.com.
